We offer our patients the most up to date information and the chance to preserve their samples with the highest guarantee

The BIOKIBANK semen bank offers diverse solutions aimed at couples or men who wish to find out the quality of their semen, who decide to store their semen for later use (such as patients in treatment for cancer or who opt to undergo a vasectomy), who need a male fertility diagnosis in assisted reproduction treatments or who require a capacitation study, among others.
In addition, BIOKIBANK has facilities in the centre of Vitoria, at Calle Aranzábal 11, for patient convenience, where sample collection takes place.

Collection and selection of semen samples for donation
Semen donation is one of the channels through which couples with problems conceiving, or single women, choose to see their dream to be parents come true. In Spain alone, almost a million couples of reproductive age do not manage to become pregnant after years of trying. Solutions such as the BIOKIBANK semen bank are the answer to this problem.

Spermiogram or seminogram
The seminogram or spermiogram is a diagnostic test that evaluates semen quality. We study macroscopic parameters, such as the volume and pH of the semen, and microscopic, including sperm morphology, motility and concentration.
In our laboratory at BIOKIBANK, we analyse the patient's reproductive capacity and the results of this analysis help in the process of deciding which fertility treatment a couple should follow.

REM or sperm capacitation test
BIOKIBANK uses this test to analyse the semen sample provided by the patient to determine if the capacitation or selection of the best sperm is possible for a greater guarantee of success in the assisted reproduction treatment. Like with the spermiogram or seminogram, we only need a semen sample.

REM capacitation
This technique consists of subjecting the semen sample to an improvement process in which BIOKIBANK separates the progressive motile sperm from the rest (non-motile sperm and non-sperm cells). By making this selection, BIOKIBANK improves the quality of the sample and helps find out which assisted reproduction technique will be most suitable.

Semen storage
At BIOKIBANK we offer our patients the possibility of storing, through cryopreservation, the semen sample for future use, maintaining high semen quality.
There are various reasons a man may decide or need to store his semen: undergoing a vasectomy, receiving aggressive oncological or medical treatments (such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy), testicular biopsies, difficulty ejaculating, psychological problems, obesity or serious eating disorders, among others.
